EYES ON THE SPARROW 3/23/09

Matthew 10:29-30

29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. 30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

Before starting Saturday Worship Services at a local nursing home, I received a note that someone needed to see me on the third floor. It turned out to be Tom! I remember him because he would always lead us in the old Hymns. He has a deep bass voice that would light up any room.

I had not seen Tom for over a year. In fact, I thought he had passed on home to glory. I did not even know where his room was. Nonetheless, I made my way up to his room after services and to my surprise and delight there he was! He explained that he had become bed ridden since the last time we saw one another. He said that he prays for me and Pastor Ewing every day. He said that the Lord had put me on his mind and he wanted to see me because the message I brought last year was still with him and he had a testimony for me. He wanted to minister to me.

Over a year ago I preached a three part series “What God Intends for My Life” And part one was titled “God Why?” Tom explained that he lost feeling in his feet and loss the use of his legs but from that message he never asked God why. But instead he praises God for allowing him to be in the land of the living just one more Day. He said; “My ministry is limited to this bed and this room but some of the nurses who tend to me will get saved by my testimony.” “Praise God!” (SHOUT)

Looking into his eyes, listening to his testimony, and holding back tears, we began to praise God together! Tom said “Pastor, every morning I wake up I that God for just one more day to sing and praise him, and although I have an end tracheal tube, God is still allowing me to sing.” “I still have my voice, Devil will not take that!” (SHOUT) “Every morning, after giving thanks, I ask the nurse to pull my curtains open so I can see the birds flying.” “I know that if God is watching over the sparrows, I know he is watching over me.” He is happy “doing the work of the Lord!” no matter where he is, even from his bed We prayed together and I left his room and that nursing home a changed man. God used Tom to confirm my message from that day, “The Things We Cannot Live Without”. We can live without the use of our feet, our legs, and even loose our ability to get out of bed. But we cannot live without the Love, Grace, and Mercy of God. We cannot live without the Shedding of Blood. We cannot live without Faith. And we cannot live without Holy Spirit. Why not live to celebrate God’s Love!

I just thank God for Tom this morning. I thank God for the Nursing Home Ministry. I thank God for my Pastors and for their love, guidance and support. I thank God for my Mother, who has been restricted to a wheelchair most of her adult life. I thank God for her love and instilling in me the Morals and Values that has led me to be the man that God would have me to be. Tom you are a blessing to me and those who meet you! thank you for ministering to me this weekend. And yes! God is using you! God is keeping you!

To all my readers, have a great week, In Jesus’ name! I know that I will! Because as God watches over the Sparrow – I know he is watching over me! And You, You, and yes… EVEN YOU! AMEN!

“Truly Giving Thanks”

Monday, November 23, 2009 Colossians 3:17 “Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Truly Giving Thanks! I hear people proclaim that they thank God for this and thank God for that and I often wonder do they really mean what they say? Do folk really thank God for waking up in the morning? Do folk truly thank God for use of their right mind? Do folk really praise Him they way he deserves to be praised? For me, I believe most people say it because it has become custom and ritual rather than meaningful. Evident by the way most folk who proclaim these things live their lives. Actions speak louder than words! Folk say they thank God yet they do not live for him. For example, ever seen an award show and a popular performer receives a Grammy. They often begin their acceptance remarks by saying “First, I give honor to God.” But the recording and video they performed represente...

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY

Isaiah 46:3-4 Listen to me...you whom I have upheld since you were conceived, and have carried since your birth. Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you. I found this illustration for Father’s Day. It is the story of Derek Redmond, a star runner in the 1992 Olympics. Derek was competing for the medal in the 400 meter race. Less than half-way through, he ripped a hamstring muscle and fell to the ground in agony. While the rest of the runners moved past him, Derek managed to get to his feet and began struggling to move forward. Then something caught the attention of the television cameras. Jim, his father, ran past security and onto the race track. At first Derek shrugged him away, saying, "I'm going to finish the race." Jim said to his son, "We've started everything together. We'll finish this together." He put his arm around his son and held him as they crossed the finish line together. ...

Reflections on My Navy Retirement June 29, 2009

I would be lost this morning without giving God thanks for the many blessings that he has bestowed upon me. Thank you to all of you that were able to attend my retirement from the Navy. Words cannot do justice to the depth of my gratitude for making such a monumental effort just to see me say goodbye to the Navy. God continues to bless me, as on Last Friday I had the opportunity to begin a new chapter in my life. Yes, this was a day that the Lord has made, I rejoiced and was glad in it. The word says that no eyes have seen no ears have heard what God has for those who love him. Seasons come and go, yet God’s presence is forever faithful. No moment from the past can cloud the vision that God has for us right now. With God all things are possible and we must trust in God to guide us into a new beginnings. And Yes, even after the Navy. I must first share our dreams and goals with God in prayer, and then led by his divine wisdom. This is why I center myself in the presence ...
