Faith – How Much Do You Need?

(Psalm 27:14) Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.

We must not allow ourselves to become so enmeshed in the circumstances of life that we are not aware of the order that is always taking place. Looking back on various events in my life, I see the way circumstances have fallen into place, which seemingly always brings about something good.

In all circumstances, the power of the Holy Spirit brings forth the strength we need to get through whatever circumstance we are facing. Keep this truth in mind as you go about your business each day. Whether you are facing a major event, planning a move, or just driving to the store, keep your faith in God. Know that any rough places ahead will be made smooth.

Our walk in life is one of faith, of knowing that everything is working together for my highest good. How much faith does one need? The following is an illustration that I used this past Sunday in church for our children…

One day, a little girl got lost in the woods on a farm near where she lived. The farmer who owned the land found the little girl and said to her, "Don't be afraid; I'll take you home." The little child looked up at him, and with a smile, said, "I'm not afraid. I knew you would come; I was waiting for you." "Waiting for me?" said the man. "What made you think I was coming?" "I was praying that you would." she said.

"You were praying?" the farmer asked. "When I first heard you, you were just saying 'A B C D E F G.' What was that for?" She looked up again and said, "I wasn't sure exactly what to say, so I was praying all the letters of the alphabet and letting God put them together the way He wanted them. He knew I was lost and he knew how to put the letters together better than I do." Even though the little girl could not see God, she had faith that he loved her and cared for her. She had faith that if she asked him to help her, he would.

How much faith is enough? Do we need to have a lot of faith, or will just a little bit do? The answer may surprise you. The followers of Jesus said to him one day, "Give us more faith." Jesus answered them, "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it will obey you." Do you know how big a mustard seed is? It is so small that you can hardly see it!

When we have faith in God, it isn't a question of how big our faith is, it is a question of how powerful our God is, and with God all things are possible! Therefore, be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart, and you will get through it! AMEN!

Put All Your Trust In God!

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interest of others. --Philippians 2:3-4 This past week, God blessed me to minister to my older sister in New Jersey. She called me because of a business deal that had not gone the way she had hoped. In short, a friend under cut the deal and gained the property in their own interest. For those who do not know my sister, she epitomizes this week's scripture. She is a wonderful person with a free and giving spirit. Over the years, I have and watched as she would give loans to family and friends many of these loans were never repaid. I can not recall one single instant where she has every asked for money back that she has given to me. She elected to stay in New Jersey to be close to our Mother, while the rest of us moved on and out of Newark, N.J. and til this day, I have never heard her complain or voice an...

SOMETIMES WAITING IS HARD

ECCLESIASTES 3:11 11God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God's work from beginning to end. We are taught at a very young age to be excited about expected events. I remember as a child that I could hardly wait for my birthday, holidays, and Summer Breaks. Sometimes as an adult I find myself anxious waiting for things I desire from God. I heard someone say that as we look at our watches; God looks at the calendar. Waiting on God is sometimes a difficult discipline for believers to develop. By nature we're not patient, and our culture offers little encouragement to develop the habit. We want, we need, and we believe that we deserve what we desire now. Credit card companies and retailers have made billions of dollars on this fact alone. There is no doubt many of us may be waiting for a number of things, too: a victory, a healing, peace in the family, growth in the family, vi...
