ARE YOU FACING THE WORLD ALONE?

Hebrews 13:5
5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

Congratulations graduate class of 2008. Many of you have heard the old saying “Now your life begins.” Or “The hard work begins.” I love that God continues to give us endings as well as new beginnings. As you step out into the new phase of your life remain steadfast and strong in your faith.

Your friends may leave you. Your family may desert you, but God has said in his word that he will never leave or forsake you. I do not believe He brought you this far, to leave you! I have an I-pod with various black gospel singers, and gospel choirs. I enjoy listening to praise music especially the old spirit filled songs that really told a story with enthusiasm. Choirs back in the day put a lot of spirit into their music. There is a track by Rev. James Cleveland that comes to mind this morning.

Before he started his song, he said he was in church sometime ago and a little lady about 82 years old got up to testify. She said, “I’ve been running for Jesus for some fifty some-odd years.” She continued to say, “I don’t feel no ways tired. I’ve come too far from where I started from. Nobody told me that the road would be easy. "BUT I DON’T BELIEVE HE BROUGHT ME THIS FAR TO LEAVE ME.”

I think we could all learn a lesson from what that Mother said. Being an older black woman, I am sure she had seen a lot of hard times along the way, but she knew that whatever happened in her life, God would not leave her. There is a scripture in Psalm chapter 37 that says, “I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.”

My meditation this morning is to those of you beginning a new phase in your life and you may be feeling like God has forsaken you. If you don’t feel that way right now, you probably will somewhere down the road of life. But always remember what Hebrews 13:5Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

Some of you this morning have been running for Jesus a long time. You have come a long ways from where you started from. The road hasn’t been easy. You have been through some difficult situations. You’ve been through some pretty turbulent storms along life’s road.
But you can identify with this 82 year Mother who said, “I’ve come too far from where I started from.” Nobody told you that the road would be easy. But look where you started from, and look where you are today! And no matter what you are going through today, I can’t believe He brought you this far, just to leave you!

What I am saying to you this morning is that you can go on with life knowing that God is with you, no matter what may come your way. Even though you may walk through the very shadow of death, Jesus is with you. His rod and His staff will comfort you! No, He hasn’t left you today! It may feel like He has, but be rest assured He is right there beside you, walking every step of the way.

There may be times when you see just one set of footprints in the sands of life, but rest assured that those are the times when Jesus has picked you up and is carrying you through those hard times. Enjoy your success and praise God! Endure the challenges of life and praise God! You are not facing the world alone! AMEN.

“Truly Giving Thanks”

Monday, November 23, 2009 Colossians 3:17 “Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Truly Giving Thanks! I hear people proclaim that they thank God for this and thank God for that and I often wonder do they really mean what they say? Do folk really thank God for waking up in the morning? Do folk truly thank God for use of their right mind? Do folk really praise Him they way he deserves to be praised? For me, I believe most people say it because it has become custom and ritual rather than meaningful. Evident by the way most folk who proclaim these things live their lives. Actions speak louder than words! Folk say they thank God yet they do not live for him. For example, ever seen an award show and a popular performer receives a Grammy. They often begin their acceptance remarks by saying “First, I give honor to God.” But the recording and video they performed represente...

DO NOT LOOK BACK

Genesis 19:26 26But his wife looked back from behind him and she became a pillar of salt. I have been traveling this week on an extended road trip. Let me say that I am grateful and truly blessed for all your prayers and phone calls. I traveled to New Jersey, Virginia, and North Carolina this passed week. God blessed me to arrive at each of my destinations on time and safely. Along the way, I noticed one thing when I was driving. I always had to keep my eyes firmly fixed on the road ahead of me. I was aware of the traffic behind me through my rear view mirror. I was aware of the traffic around me through my side view mirrors but for the most part my eyes were fixed on the road ahead. So often times in life we look back on our past, we look back on “what was” instead of what is or what could be through Christ. God promises us that He will never leave or never forsake us. God is with us in the good times and through the bad times. He is here today, and he will be there tomorrow and will ...

WAKE UP

Monday, October 12, 2009 Acts 12:5-11 5 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him. 6 And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison. 7 And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands. 8 And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me. 9 And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision. 10 When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on...
