To Live Faithfully in 2008

2 Corinthians 5:7 “We live by faith, not by sight.”

“To live by faith is to live joyfully, to live with assurance, untroubled by doubts and with complete confidence in all we have to do and suffer at each moment by the will of God. We must realize that it is in order to stimulate and sustain this faith that God allows the soul to be buffeted and swept away by the raging torrent of so much distress, so many troubles, so much embarrassment and weakness, and so many setbacks. For it is essential to have faith to find God behind all this.” Reference: Jean-Pierre de Caussade, 1675-1751, in Discipleship Journal, issue 40

· The world can give you advice – but God can give you direction.
· The world says it’s impossible - but God says “all things are possible”
· The world can give you a high – but God can give you joy.
· The world says you can not accomplish it – bur God says “You can do all things through Christ.”
· The world can give you a temporary hug – but God can wrap his arms around you.
· The world says you’re not smart enough – but God says “I will give you wisdom.”
· The world can give you a few moments of happiness – but God can give you joy.
· You may be telling yourself that you’re all alone – But God says “I will never leave or forsake you.”

Whatever the world is telling you about 2008 do not believe in it. God has something for you if you are willing to step out on faith and allow Him to direct your path. In all likelihood, someone reading this today is really struggling. Maybe it's intense loneliness, depression, bitterness, abuse that dates way back, a recent divorce, and the disclosure that your child is into something that they should not be. Maybe it is the loss of a loved one, a grim medical diagnosis. Maybe it's a relapse into a self-destructive dependency from which you'd known a short season of freedom.

Why not admit what you're feeling to the Lord? He can handle it. Better yet, let Him handle you. Take a different approach in 2008, start a new beginning. Let Him embrace you. When you reach for Jesus and hold him close to your chest, something wonderful happens! God hugs you back! He reminds you that the world is at times a swamp to live in. The world is a cold, sometimes hurtful, sinful and unfair place to live. But in the same breath, God continues to say that is the very reason why He came into our world. Life is not easy. Your Life isn't easy. My Life isn't easy. But because of God so loved the world, we don't have to splash through the swamp without help and without hope. Come walk with God through 2008. How? We live by faith and not by sight! Come let’s start a new beginning in Christ together! AMEN.

Put All Your Trust In God!

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interest of others. --Philippians 2:3-4 This past week, God blessed me to minister to my older sister in New Jersey. She called me because of a business deal that had not gone the way she had hoped. In short, a friend under cut the deal and gained the property in their own interest. For those who do not know my sister, she epitomizes this week's scripture. She is a wonderful person with a free and giving spirit. Over the years, I have and watched as she would give loans to family and friends many of these loans were never repaid. I can not recall one single instant where she has every asked for money back that she has given to me. She elected to stay in New Jersey to be close to our Mother, while the rest of us moved on and out of Newark, N.J. and til this day, I have never heard her complain or voice an...

SOMETIMES WAITING IS HARD

ECCLESIASTES 3:11 11God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God's work from beginning to end. We are taught at a very young age to be excited about expected events. I remember as a child that I could hardly wait for my birthday, holidays, and Summer Breaks. Sometimes as an adult I find myself anxious waiting for things I desire from God. I heard someone say that as we look at our watches; God looks at the calendar. Waiting on God is sometimes a difficult discipline for believers to develop. By nature we're not patient, and our culture offers little encouragement to develop the habit. We want, we need, and we believe that we deserve what we desire now. Credit card companies and retailers have made billions of dollars on this fact alone. There is no doubt many of us may be waiting for a number of things, too: a victory, a healing, peace in the family, growth in the family, vi...

Happy New Year!

Genesis 1:1-5 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was a vast waste, darkness covered the deep, and the spirit of God hovered over the surface of the water. God said: "Let there be light," and there was light; and God saw the light was good, and he separated the light from darkness. He called the light day, and the darkness night. So evening came, and morning came; it was the first day. The year 2007 is gone, finished, past. We cannot reclaim it or undo it. The New Year, like a newborn child, which is placed in our hands as the old year passes away. We cannot rest on the things it has brought us. The days and weeks to come are God's gift; they carry God's blessing and the time to show our faith in Jesus as Lord. Let's journey forward, knowing that God already inhabits the future and promises to provide us refreshment. My prayer for the year ending is that all that was good in it remain with us an all that was harmful be left behind. We...
